İnsanlarda ilk defa 1970 yılında Kongo Demokratik Cumhuriyeti’nde tespit edilmiştir. Sonrasında Orta ve Batı Afrika’daki ülkelerde görülen bu hastalığın sıklığı tam olarak bilinmemekle birlikte Kongo Demokratik Cumhuriyeti’nde 2005’e kadar yıllık 1000’e yakın olgu bildirilmiştir. Hastalık dönem dönem Afrika kıtasından enfekte hayvanlar ve insanlar aracılığıyla diğer kıtalara yayılmakta ve buralarda küçük küçük salgınlar yapmaktadır.

Accreditation & Certifications
Acıbadem Labmed Medical Laboratory has been accredited by DACH (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle Chemie) according to the ISO 15189 standard, effective October 20, 2005, making it the first medical laboratory in Turkey to have ISO 15189 accreditation. Effective as of October 19, 2010, it has been reaccredited by TURKAK (Turkish Accreditation Agency) in accordance with the TS EN ISO 15189 standard, making it the first medical laboratory in Turkey to be accredited by TURKAK according to the TS EN ISO 15189 standard. Acıbadem Labmed Medical Laboratory was re-accredited by TURKAK in 2014 according to the TS EN ISO 15189 standard, and became the first medical laboratory in Turkey to be accredited by TURKAK with a flexible scope according to the TS EN ISO 15189 standard, effective January 10, 2017. Re-accredited with fixed and flexible scope in January 2023, it became the first medical laboratory in Turkey to continue its 5th accreditation cycle according to theTS EN ISO 15189 standard. Acıbadem Labmed Genetic Diseases Evaluation Centerhas been accredited by TURKAK in accordance with the TS EN ISO 15189 standard, effective as of January 10, 2017. It has been accredited according to the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Laboratory Accreditation Program Standards, effective July 6, 2023, and became the first genetics laboratory in Turkey to have CAP accreditation and maintained its accreditation until June 5, 2026.Effective July 6, 2023, the laboratory was accredited according to the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Laboratory Accreditation Program Standards, becoming the first genetics laboratory in Turkey to hold CAP accreditation, and maintained its accreditation until May 5, 2026.
Since TURKAK is a party to the multilateral agreement (MRA - Mutual Recognition Agreements) of ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation), the accreditation of our laboratory has become recognized in all ILAC member countries.
The aim of the TS EN ISO 15189 standard is to ensure safety in medical laboratories and the accuracy and quality required by patients and clinical personnel directly responsible for treatment.
The aim of CAP (College of American Pathologists) is to provide excellence in pathology and medical laboratory practices.
